Back at it in the Studio
I blinked an January is almost over!
Grad applications are over, so now its time to have some fun. I’m starting the semester off with more teapots. I’m most excited about the slab built teapots. The building process really made me slow down and pay more attention to each piece. Also, fitting the lid with a handmade flange was a lot more fun and satisfying than I thought.
I ended the week realizing that I needed to fire off the soda kiln in preparation for the Valentines day sale thats coming up in February. Thankfully Lilly helped me through the massive undertaking of glazing, wadding, and loading. It’s all loaded and candling.
I’m going to start the week with playing around with Joe Pintz’s Endicott clay body recipe. I’m excited to play around with a terracotta clay. Hilariously enough, my clay is ripe enough that the color shifted to a deep brown color that I like more than the brighter red dried color. So lets see if I can actually get a clay body that is naturally that beautiful brown.
