Applications and Studio Pots
The winter break was filled with photographing, typing, editing, and making studio pots for our upcoming sale.
Over the past month and a half I have been gathering materials for my 11 graduate school applications. I' have spent many hours of photographing pots, writing statements and letters, and filling out forms. Then going back and editing the photos — What does it mean to be truly white balanced?, editing all my writing — Why do I make, How to write accurately and concisely?, and then measuring all my pots — I forgot that I need to record all my pots dimensions. Enough is enough and my deadlines are almost here. Soon I can look at clay instead of glowing pixels.
To give myself a break from all this computer work, I threw myself it preparing for the Dirtbags Valentine’s Day Sale. Kate and I worked together to throw, trim, and join over 40 cups. Afterwards, I dived into making vases, caddies, and pitchers.
I’m ready to get back to my own studio practice and I have decided that I deserve a bit of a break this semester. The entirety of my fall semester was dedicated to making a cohesive body of work for applications. So, this semester is going to filled with tons of play. I’m going to make what I want to make. I’m leaving the reflection for the end of the semester.
