Started The Week With a 24hr Shift And It Only Got Better From There

The title doesn’t lie. I started off the week by getting to the IUS studio around 7:30 am (Monday morning) to do some last minute prep for the wood kiln. The kiln was lit around 9:30 am and I started my longer than usual shift. It was pretty eventful night, but the kiln was chugging along nicely. I was released from my duties at 8 am (Tuesday morning). I excitedly returned after short nap at 4 pm. The kiln fired off with a high of 2228 at 10 pm. I was pretty knackered for the rest of the week.

After the two day wood fire craze, I started to play around with clay bodies. Brian and I chatted quickly about where to start on Wednesday. This is my first attempt at better understanding the materials I know as clay. I’m starting with a couple IUS clay body recipes and modifying them to better suit my tastes. At this point, I do not really know what that is, but I’m still excited to explore the color ranges.

Lastly, I’m starting to visualize the end for my tables/stands that I made earlier in the semester. My current thought is to surround the central longer table adorned with a tea set with the four stands accompanied by 4 vases. Still playing and visualizing, but am excited to see where this goes.

Can’t wait to see the results of the wood firing!
