Lots of Testing
RIP Custer Feldspar
Big week of finalizing some tests, guest artist, and a pottery festival.
Tests - Custer has gone the way of the dodo. Without Custer, there is no more ceramics unless we reformulate recipes. This week I finalized testing on a new clay body recipe substituting Custer with G-200 EU. We’ve currently settled at a .9 conversion based off mass for the time being. More testing will need to be done once the class reclaim is fully cycled through. When that time comes, there needs to be a more sensitive scale because with our current gram scale the class body has 0% absorbance across the board. This just feels off, but we’ll have to live with it until further testing is done.
Guest Artist - This week we hosted a demonstration by Jeff Campana. He was a lively character with lots of stories and was very knowledgeable across the ceramic digital divide. I really appreciated his honesty regarding his fluctuation and growth with his work. The trust in himself to know that the path he was walking was not the right one and the courage to jump ship. It was really reassuring to hear his experience with the medium and the grace to allow for exploration and change.
Pottery Festival - Another great year of the Southern Crossing Pottery Festival. I was really excited to meet the new artists and catch up with old friends.
