Kicking off Fall 2023 with 99 Degree Weather

Here’s to another great year at IUS!!

This past summer was a hectic one and it’s definitely ending on a “high” note.

Here’s a quick overview of what happened during this blog’s hiatus

1: Made a new series of work — playing with blues and whites

2: Wood fired during the heat of July…Thankfully we chose not to wait until August

3: Documented and applied to some shows

4: Changed studios — got to help paint in the back

5: Visited friends and family

Now we’re back up and running with the start of the semester. First and second day introductions went smoothly, stayed awake through syllabus talks, and played with some clay. I’m currently running a batch of different hih-iron porcelaneous stonewares—excited to see the results after firing. Honestly, I’m feeling a little lost in my practice…I need to take some time and really think about what it is I want to pursue. But in the meantime, I’m trying to challenge myself again with the teapot form and other tea brewing methods. My latest exploration is the gaiwan—the main brewing vessel in gongfu tea preparation. I believe this form will allow me to reiterate quicker than the more daunting teapot.
