Starting to Finish and Starting New

Big week of wrapping up projects and starting new tests.

The end of the semester was rearing it’s ugly head and many plans were shifting. The major upset was the postponement of the wood firing. This disrupted my current goals and I was scrambling to find things to finish in time for my final crit at IUS.

I sat down one night and mapped out the next couple of weeks.

1: Finish my four large jars.

2: Test out some earthenware clay bodies for color and vitrification

3: Complete my empty bowls and play around with some soda firing

I was able to complete 2 of my jars by the end of the week. However, I misplaced my oxide wash and couldn’t locate my recipe so my first round had to be pure line art. I started testing out some new oxide recipes at different concentration in order to create a watercolor range.

I’ve got six clay body test going. Excited by the color range. Looking for a nice red and less browns.

Max and I prepped our pots over the weekend in preparation for our soda kiln.

I’m feeling much better at the end of the week because of the new schedule.
